(http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/coniston/1350677). It slept up to 8 people was spacious and well equipment. It is also position just a stone throw from the local pub The Eagles Head. Where Emma and Simon provide a warm welcome with fantastic food especially the pies and a great range of real ale and for these winter nights there is a large log burn. Our personal idea of heaven. A brilliant place to relax in after a long walk in the Grinsdale forest, which there are plenty of from the cottage door (http://eagleshead.co.uk).
After visiting the great grandparents on Friday we packed the cars and headed up to the Lakes on Saturday morning. Taking a leisurely drive and stopping for lunch on routine.

Before collecting the cottage key from the Holiday agency office in Hawkshead at 3pm. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday was spent visiting tourist spots and walking around the lake district.

Before Bill and Sue headed back to Bolton on Tuesday night after tea to collect Ian from the airport. Wednesday morning was spent chilling out in the cottage before Ian and the grandparents arrived for lunch. In the afternoon we took Felicity to Grinsdale Forest for a walk. Felicity however protested for much of the walk even though there were trees (Felicity loves trees). Wednesday night we took Uncle Ian for tea at The Eagles Head. The starter and main courses were delicious but I didn't get a chance to try their dessert because Felicity was over tired and ready for bed. So we left the rest of the Farrell family in the pub and went back to the cottage for a bath and bed. Thursday was spent walking again before fish and chips. Before Ian and the grandparents headed back to Bolton, as Ian was on his way to his holiday in Canada.

On Friday we had the day to ourselves so headed over to Wast Water for a walk in the sun and lunch at the local brewery. Another pub (The Strands Inn).
I can recommend for good simple pub food and a large range of their own brewed beer. Friday evening saw the arrival of our friend Paul

Saturday saw the arrival of Pete and Kim. It was lovely to spend some relaxing time with them all at Coniston and around the Grinsdale Forest.
After a relaxed pub lunch we said our goodbyes to our weekend guests and awaited the arrival of Jo and Matt for tea. On Monday we headed out to the hills one more time.
On Tuesday we headed to Grange Over Sands with Jo and Matt to meet Bill and Sue for lunch and to try the famous meat and potato pie that I have heard nothing be praise for since meeting Mark. I have to say it was very very good, so if you find yourself there had to the butchers on the concern or do what the Farrell family did one year. Join the end of the queue and await for a good surprise.

The rest of the holiday was spent with Bill and Sue enjoying some fantastic walks, tasting great food, playing scrabble and having the odd baby free night down the pub.

Story time with Gran

Another pub dad?

On one of the days I had had such a bad night. Felicity and I stayed back at the car and enjoyed the trees. Whilst Mark and his parents went for a walk.
I was tired!

On our final day in the lakes it rained, so we head to the Dales to show Felicity the famous stone walls and barns.

Saturday 24th saw the end of a great holiday and only 2 days of rain in 2 weeks, which must be a record for the Lake district. After cleaning up and packing our packs we parted company with Bill and Sue for the day as we headed on our own trip back to Bolton, Calling in on friends on the way,
First stop was to Hawkshead to drop of the key and to purchase Felicity her own Mrs Tiggy Winkle. Then on to Amy's for lunch in Lancaster. But not before going across the lake on the ferry. In the 2 weeks we had been there the ferry had been closed for repairs and Saturday morning it reopened. So on we went.

After a wet visit to Lancaster it was on to see Rob and Kelly.

Before stopping in on Lindsay. It was fantastic to see you all. We are just sorry it was such a short visit, but it was great to see you all looking so well and happy. Kelly Felicity says hello to Zac. My finally stop was a Danny's where Felicity and I spent the night with Danny, Alan and Gaz.
Once at Danny's I had a lovely evening and was completely spoilt by them. Fantastic Indian, thanks Allan.

Sunday morning Felicity and I were collected by Mark and we drove to see Bill and Sue's friends for lunch and then onto Uncle Keith and Aunty Margaret for tea.

After a long earned rest Monday started with visits to the great grandparents and then on to Anglesey.
